One of the several waterfalls in the Niagara Falls region, the American Falls are situated entirely on the US side of the border.  The American Falls receives only about 10% of the flow of water from the Niagara River, the rest flowing through the Horseshoe falls.  The base of the falls are lined with huge boulders, meaning that the daredevil barrel jumping antics seen off the Horseshoe Falls are conspicuously absent.

The American Falls are approximately 253 metres across (830 feet), and are between 21 to 34 metres tall (70-110 feet.)  To the right is a smaller, separate Bridal Veil Falls.   It is possible to walk up close to the falls on the US side, and take a boat tour to see the base of the falls from the Canadian side.  The best views of these falls are from the Canadian side.  At night, both the American Falls and the Horseshoe Falls are illuminated until around 9:00pm in the evening.

When we came there by bus early in the morning the 1st question which arose was where the falls were. It sounds funny but at 1st we couldn't see it! We heard the sound of water falling, but it took us 20 min. to find it. at last we reached a bridge and standing there we saw it. It was amazing. But it was only the beginning, we went farther and saw the cascade... Then we took a boat called Maid of the mist, and it took us down to the fall! That was such fun!!! You won't get wet as they give you blur raincoats, and at local shops I bought a small copy of the ship. In the evening the Falls were illuminated, and it looked artificial but beautiful. I still remember that feeling of air penetrated with water drops on my face. I strongly recommend you to travel there!

No one its one of the Seven Wonders of the World :) The American falls, The Bridal Veil Falls and The Horseshoe Falls are just magnificent! The Horseshoe Falls drop about 173 feet (53 m). The American Falls drop about 70 feet (21 m) before reaching a jumble of fallen rocks that were deposited by a massive rock slide in 1954. The larger Horseshoe Falls are about 2,600 feet (792 m) wide, while the American Falls are 1,060 feet (323 m) wide. The volume of water approaching the falls during peak flow season is 202,000 cubic feet per second (5,720 m³/s).

Gorgeous example of nature! And you get so much closer to the actual falls from this American side!

Many fantastic view points of the different waterfalls; you can even take an elevator ($1US) to go closer to the base of the falls and walk along some staircases.

I found I wasn't covered in as much mist from these falls compared to the giant horseshoe one on the Canadian side - but in conclusion I say bring your passport and go to both the American side and Canadian side!

Ūdenskritumi noteikti jāskatās no Kanādas puses, jo no ASV redz tikai sāniski. Un droši vien vasarā tomēr labāk nekā ziemā ;) Kopš vairs nav vajadzīga ASV vīza, uz Kanādu pāri tiltam var iet droši, cik tikai patīk - agrāk bija jāskatās, vai ASV vīza ir 'Multiple', citādi vairs netiktu atpakaļ ;)
