What can I say....... this place is a true masterpiece! The Biltmore Estate was completed in 1895, and was built by George W. Vanderbilt. It is modeled in the French Renaissance Style and looks very much like the Chateaus of Europe. The Biltmore has over 250 rooms and about 175,000 sq. ft. of floor space. The entire estate covers an area of approximately 8,000 acres. A good time to go is close to the holidays when the grounds are lit up and decorated to celebrate christmas.

I've been a number of times over the years, and pretty much agree with Laura. Definately worth visiting if you're in Ashville. And agree the grounds are the high point. I found it nicest when it was decorated for Christmas.

The nicest thing in the Ashville area. IMHO is driving along the Blue Ridge Parkway. Especially liked the Mt Mitchell area.

Biltmore Estate is an amazing place to visit. To get the most out of it, make sure to take the backstage tours. The rooftop tour is awesome (even if you are afraid of heights).

Also, make sure you have a nice dinner on the grounds, and try their steaks, delicious, with some of their wine.

The most incredible house you will ever go to - like something out of a fairy tale. Has the most beautiful library I have ever seen with an enormous fireplace. Beautiful grounds that include gardens and a winery. The house is furnished with priceless European antiques and artwork. It is a dream...

The grounds are stunning - the house is an American version of castle. If you enjoy looking at architecture and getting a glimpse of another era, this is the place for you. The gardens are wonderful. They have good restaurants as well as a vineyard.
