The Needles Highway is a 14 mile stretch that is surrounded by huge granite "needle" formations. There are areas you can stop and actually climb on the formations. It's a really beautiful sight and is on the way to many attractions in south dakota (mt. rushmore, custer state park)

I remember seeing this on the way to Custer State park and it was astonishing. Really a treat to see, we stopped and climbed up some of the smaller formations and had a great view of the wooded hills of south dakota
