Everyone should visit Graceland at least once. It's an amazingly beautiful house. With everything left the way that it was when Elvis passed, it's definitely a step back in time. I was 7 years old when my mother told me I couldn't grow up to marry Elvis because he'd already been dead for 11 years. Visiting Graceland brought back the childhood happiness of watching Elvis movies and dancing in the kitchen with my mom. Experiencing the house and walking through the same rooms was a surreal experience. The only downside to Graceland (Memphis, rather) is that it's THE ONLY pretty thing in Memphis. Once you're off Graceland property, everything looks so run-down and not well maintained.

I guess everybody in America ought to see Graceland once. What a disappointment, however. The place was impressive based upon Elvis' age when he acquired it, but honestly it is pretty ordinary overall. One word comes to mind...Cheesy. More than anything, it made me laugh. Graceland had always been built up as though it were the White House or something similar. Not so much. Mr. Presley did leave his mark on American Music and culture. I still remember the day he died. I had flown to Offutt AFB and turned the television on in my billet. Every channel had Elvis on. I was thinking "what is this, Elvis day?" Then it dawned on me that he was being referred to in the past tense. Tragic.

Keep in mind I was about 5 years old, but I have always been an Elvis Presley fan. The family trip I took to Graceland was one I will always remember. I got to sit in the pink jeep and touch his pink cadillac. I remember the self portrait by the stairs and seeing the actual jungle room. I even have a pic of my sisters and I against the wall and gate to Graceland. To this day I embrace Elvis and all he was. Long Live the King of Rock n Roll!!

Feel the spirit of the King. I truely enjoy visiting Grandland and visiting all the shops around the area, and the several muesums. I have met so many people from around the world during Elvis week. It is it own thing, I have taken non-Elvis fan and they have had a great time visiting the T.V room or the Jungle room. There is just great history in this place.
