What's There:
Description:

Situated in the coast of South Texas, Padres Island National Seashore is known for its beaches.  Come for pristine camping in locations that are only accessible with 4-wheel drive vehicle.  It is the longest undeveloped barrier island in the world.

Padres Island National Seashore is also one of the most important nesting beaches for the Kemp's Ridley Sea turtles (outside of Rancho Nuevo in Mexico).  These are the smallest of the sea turtle speices - averaging less than 1 metre long.  Kemp's Ridley turtles are also critically endangered.   In 2008, a record number of nests were found in this location.  Volunteers score the beaches to identify and protect the turtle nests.

At Padres Island Seashore, you'll also be able to see over 380 different species of birds - over 45% of all bird species documented in North America.  This is because Padre Island lies along a major migratory route known as the Central Flyway.

Getting there:
Southeast of Corpus Christi.  Head east along Highway 358 (Padre Island Drive), go onto park road 22

Great sand, huge sand dunes, and you can drive on it.
