You can't go to San Antonio without going to the Riverwalk. A river winds through town with wide sidewalks on each side. The river is lined with numerous restaurants, shops, and hotels. You can ride a flat, open boat down the river, or watch other pass by. Scenic bridges span the river here and there. During Christmas they have boat parades that float down the Riverwalk and for St. Patrick's Day they dye the river green and declare it the River Shannon and have a parade. Accomodations on the river are very expensive, but romantic and scenic.

The Riverwalk is San Antonio. The first thing that most mention when you say your in San Antonio is "have you been to the Riverwalk?" Just like the Arch in St Louis or the Golden Gate in San Fran, the Riverwalk is synonymous with San Antonio! The food, the atmosphere, and the great people of a diverse set of nationalities makes it special. The Alamo is the history but the Riverwalk is the attraction!

Dozens of cafes, bistros and elegant restaurants line the River Walk's downtown central stretch with riverside patios...Love the time spent in Lackland Airforce Base... golfing after school, paid by the Army... Great time at SeaWorld, not crazy about the Spurs... but awesome time at Ripley's Believe or Not across from The Alamo!!! Place with history that made Texas!!!

There are many cosy restaurants and the surroundings are just beautiful. I went on the boat tour as well which was ok but not essential.. walking the River walk is enjoyable enough without spending a lot of money on a not worth the while boat trip.. If you have the kids with you... you have to stop at the jungle cafe.

Venice in US :)

The river cruise is a must when visiting San Antonio. It's the defining landmark for the modern city.

Each bank is lined with history in shape of buildings that go back 300 years to the time of Spanish rule.

Modern Restaurants and cafe's are delightul and not (too) expensive.
