The Fremont troll has been hiding beneath the north end of the Aurora bridge since 1990 when he was sculpted by four Seattle artists for the Fremont Arts Council- Steve Badanes, Will Martin, Donna Walter, and Ross Whitehead. This monster statue (head and shoulders) is 18 feet tall! He has one shiny eye staring out beneath shaggy hair and one hand is crushing an old school VW bug. People are allowed to crawl on and over the troll for some fun picture opps.

Payment Accepted:

Under the Aurora Ave. Bridge -- sometimes called the George Washington Bridge -- at N. 36th Street. Despite the troll's name, it is not under the nearby Fremont bridge.

I love the Fremont troll! He is one place I always bring people who visit me in Seattle as he's famous but not always clumped in with the most famous Seattle attractions (think Pikes Place, Space Needle,etc). Fremont itself is a great place to spend an afternoon in Seattle. It has lots of fun places to eat, shops and boutiques, and oozes in Seattle charm. Sunday Fremont hosts one of the best markets in Seattle. Come down for lunch, visit the troll, and do a bit of shopping. Perfecto!

In Seattle it's an icon for the locals. Under the aurora bridge the troll brings the Seattles magical fantasy land to life in the under world of Fremont and it's subculture of Ferries, Fawns, and naked bicyclists.
