With a total area of 200,400 hectares and 140 kilometres in length, the Parque Nacional Sierra de La Culata is the second most important spot for local tourism among the four national parks found in the state of Merida. This mountain range goes from North to South, on the west side of the sate and running parallel to the Sierra Nevada. It is conformed by moors and misty forests and its higher peaks are Piedras Blancas (4,762 meters) and Campanario (4,325 meters). The park runs through both the states of Merida and Trujillo. The Instituto Nacional de Parques (INPARQUES) and many travel agencies in town will inform you about this tourist attraction and the excursions available.

Unique place which mix frozen deserts to moorlands (paramos), with an incredible fauna and flora. Trout-fishing is very popular in the area. I recommend to go on snowy season between june and september
