This tiny bridge (which you can only walk over, not drive over) is really old. There is a Japanese temple on top of the bridge, which i am told was built to stop the bombing - nobody wanted to risk bombing a holy site. And that really helped them during the war. Otherwise every time the bridge was bombed, they couldn't get to the other side.

The bridge is a unique covered structure built by the Japanese, the only known covered bridge with a Buddhist pagoda attached to one side. In 1999, the old town of Hoi An was declared a World Heritage site by UNESCO as a well-preserved example of a Southeast Asian trading port of the 15th to 19th centuries, with buildings that display a unique blend of local and foreign influences.

The bridge is a beautiful symbol of the unusual art, culture and history of Hoi An. It's a wonderful experience standing in the center, beneath the roof, looking out on the city.

Little japanese bridge from the 16th century used to be the link between the Japanese and the Chinese community of Hoi an. These days there is no japanese community anymore.
