Prison
Hoa Lo Prision, more famously known as the "Hanoi Hilton", was constructed by the French in the 1896.  Then, it was the home to the unlucky Vietnamese revolutionary.  On display are some of the Guillotines used.  The prisons were famous for some the notorious cruelty of the guards, as well as some of the famous occupants who escaped, including Hoang Van Thu, Tran Dan Ninh, and Nguyen Van Cu.  At its peak, over 2000 prisoners were held in 1953.

More recently, the prison was used during the Vietnam War for housing American and French POW, including Senator John McCain and former Ambassador Peterson.  Most of the structure is no longer standing, but old parts of the prison remain.

Fascinating, haunting. FYI, most of the information presented (in 2007, at least) was about how it was used by the French against the Vietnamese.
