Once called Independence Palace, Reunification Palace is named after the reunion between the Northern and Southern fractions of the country after the war on April 30th, 1975.  First built in 1865 as the residence of the French Governor General, the building in its current form came about after the original building was partially destroyed.  The building represents 60's architecture with open airy spacious chambers.  It is no longer used official functions.  Additions to the building include a statue of Ho Chi Minh.

The palace features an extensive basement with a network of tunnels and rooms, and was at one point used as a hiding place for the President.

There is a guided tour within the palace where you can chose an English, French or Vietnamese speaking tour guide. It was very informative and there is a lot to be learned about Vietnamese history. Defiantly worth a visit.
