al-Eizariya or al-Izzariya ( Arabic : العيزريه ‎, lit. Place of Lazarus ) is the second largest Palestinian town in the Jerusalem Governorate with, according to the PCBS , a population of 17,398 inhabitants. Located on the southeastern slope of the Mount of Olives , less than 2 miles (3 km) from Jerusalem , the town is commonly identified as the site of biblical Bethany .
