Most people spend months in India. We had 10 days. That’s plenty of time to see some fantastic places, except with it being the end of a 2 month whirl-wind trip through Asia we kind of wanted to get off the beaten track and out of the craziness. Did we ever pick the wrong country for that. (Delhi has a population of, what, 14 million people?!?!). We decided to go to Delhi, Bikaner and Agra while we were there and had plenty of time to cover them.

I´ll try to keep it short, but if..(More)

Today was our ¡°free¡± day, one where we didn't have a lecture or assignment or anything to do with our project, and it was one of the only ones we'd have our whole trip. Wanting to throw us into Chinese culture right away, Prof. Lin decided that today was perfect for seeing the Great Wall. I woke up and learned that hot water for showers is available every morning from 7am till 8:30 am, only. Breakfast was traditional, consisting of cooked peanuts, eggs, vegetables, rice porridge (basically..(More)

More time on the train. This time to Beijing. Customs was similar on the Mongolian side. On the Chinese side we had to have our bogies (wheels) changed, as the track gage is different. I was the most nervous about the Chinese border than any others. We arrived at the station and music was playing. Arrived in Beijing in the morning. Went to the hotel and showered. Went on a city walk before going to dinner. Peking duck is amazing! Started to get sick, so didn't eat much. Next day went to..(More)

It's now Thursday night and definitely time for an update on what I've been up to.
On Sunday we had a great yum cha at a restaurant called Paradise Gardens in Jinmao Tower where Michelle's Mum Belle works for IBM. I'm pretty sure its the tallest building in China and you can see it from everywhere in Shanghai. We lunched with some of Belle's work colleagues and though the conversation was mostly in Chinese I didn't have too much trouble understanding the jist of it - I guess Zhang Laoshi's..(More)
