Well, I just returned from China and it was a most exotic trip with so much unexpected happening. I'll soon be updating the 'official truth' of the visit at Traveler Willem. blog at http://willemontraveling.blogspot.com/

I was there for 20 days and lived with a family. Never lived in a hotel up to this date. Perhaps one day I'll have the joy of hotelling myself like a regular mass tourist.

Like I said when I left off in the last entry, Kate, Suzie and I felt we’d arrived in paradise when our taxi finally dropped us off in Thamel. He seemed to think that just getting us to Thamel was all he had to do and we ended up somewhere in the dark side streets around 9pm…we actually laughed when after he refused to take us to our hotel of choice he asked us for a nice little tip. (We had a few tips for him, but not the kind he was hoping for I’m sure). So first I should describe Thamel a..(More)

Today was our ¡°free¡± day, one where we didn't have a lecture or assignment or anything to do with our project, and it was one of the only ones we'd have our whole trip. Wanting to throw us into Chinese culture right away, Prof. Lin decided that today was perfect for seeing the Great Wall. I woke up and learned that hot water for showers is available every morning from 7am till 8:30 am, only. Breakfast was traditional, consisting of cooked peanuts, eggs, vegetables, rice porridge (basically..(More)

Life on the train is better than I thought. After spending days walking, it was nice to rest my sore feet. Ate sometimes in the dining car, sometimes in my compartment, instant noodles and the likes. Brought some from home. I read a lot to pass the time. Met some locals who were rather interesting characters. Early May at this point. Spent 4 nights/3 days on the train, as I boarded the train around midnight and arrived early in the am.(More)

Well...where do I begin to describe about the ladyboy cabaret. It was absolutely HILARIOUS! The dancing was so out of sync, the miming terrible, but you know what? It was so so funny. The costumes and set were amazing, and I couldn't believe at the end that not only were the two very obviously try-hard females ladyboys, but EVERY SINGLE PERSON on stage was a ladyboy! I was blown out of my mind. It wasn't just make-up and costumes, but breast implants, facial reconstruction, the whole works! I..(More)
