Nov 9, 2008 Mendoza region with it's magnificent scenery, countless vineyards and delicious wine and food is not a secret and therefore you won't be the only tourist. However, it is definitely worth visiting as you can book your own private wine tours, choose the wineries you want to visit and don't have to be part of a huge group of tourists. A driver for the whole tour (about 7 hours) can be booked for about 300 Argentinean Pesos, that's about $100 US. While being in Mendoza, I absolutely recommend that you have lunch at Cava de Cano, a little restaurant, well hidden and surrounded by huge old trees. You will get plenty of little bowls, filled with different things like sun dried tomato, olives, apples soak in wine, a variety of cheese and meat. All these things are part of this amazing four dish course. There were 3 of us, and there were 6 bottles of their own, delicious wine included. We spent about 240 Argentinean Pesos, which is about $70 US and well worth every single Peso. The staff is very nice, will explain every single dish and show you their own tiny winery, where you can buy their wine (they only produce about 5000 bottles a year, and each single one has its handwritten number on the label. This is an absolutely unforgettable experience in a very unusual place and far from mass tourism.
