As of 2001, Cello Macedo and Marcelo do Rio - two bussinessmen from Rio de Janeiro - noticed that there was something missing in the market: a premium high-standards drafted beer that carried all the brazilian characteristics. That's when they decided to develop the Devassa - a bold and refined tasted beer - that is sold at the Armazém Devassa bars spread around the city.

A cozy wooden haven for the true beer enthusiasts! A Brazilian friend told me that the beer at Devassa was simply the best. Apparently they have their own home-made brand of beer (Blonde, Ale, Indian) I tasted them all, and could not put them aside. Devassa is located at the heart of Ipanema, closeby to other great spots for shopping or chilling. The place was packed with people living out the true carioca lifestyle. A place to have fun after going to the beach. Don't count with parking spots, you won't find it, but other than that, it's a great experience!

Apparently they are famous for is having a wide selection of homemade beer. There are multiple big screen TV's scattered throughout the bar, so it’s cool to watch if you’re alone. They also have great bar eats. I went there on a random day while strolling through Ipanema. If you’re lucky some cute Brazilian will stroll in and talk to you. What else do you want? Enough said.

This is definitely the best place to drink drafted beer in Rio if you’re into real beer. Not the stale, thin and watery excuse of other cheap beer joints in Brazil. The taste is fantastic: thick and tasty! Devassa at Flamengo can get packed so go early or on a weekday. Save room for the feijoada. They won’t take reservations, the place is really nice...Enjoy!
