Hard to really truly judge the quality of this place as I got takeout. I'd heard good things and had high hopes.

Arrived at 11:30 in the morning to find out they were only open at 12:00, so waited the 1/2 hour for them to open. By then I was ready to order and got the following:

Salmon Sashimi, Hokkigai Sashimi, Paradise Roll, California Roll, Deep Fried California Roll, Volcano Roll, Spicy Salmon Sashimi.

I'm really particular about my spicy salmon so I tried to ask them what kind of sauce they used. Understandably it's secret so they wouldn't tell me. Really though, all I wanted to know is if it was chili oil based or that chili paste stuff. They wouldn't tell me that either nor show me the sauce. Oh well. :( I ordered only a 1/2 batch then just to be sure, and thankfully for that because the sauce was not the kind I liked.

Rest of the rolls were good, the Paradise roll has mango slices and a sweet sauce. I didn't love the deep fried california roll but did think the volcano roll (similar with scallops on top and a black sesame type sauce) was pretty good. The real crab meat california roll is worth the extra $2 ($5.95 instead of $3.95).

Overall, seemed decent, but not fantastic.

Makoto Japanese Restaurant is run by Japanese people and has some interesting rolls such as the Volcano Roll (spicy tuna and deep fried scallops) and the Paradise Roll (crab, avocado, cucumber, mango, and salmon). Those were quite tasty as were their regular rolls. The Crispy California Roll (deep fried) was only okay though since it got a bit mushy with takeout. Had a bit of trouble communicating with the staff about some spicy salmon sauce due to some language barriers.

Paradise roll (topped with salmon sashimi and perfectly thinly sliced mango) was excellent. Deep friend california was respectable, Volcano was well presented (and tasty!). Definitely give Makoto a shot!
