Japa Dog (on Pender)
About Japa Dog (on Pender)
Started in 2006 by Noriki Tamura, an Ad Salesman from Japan who had planned on opening a Japanese-style crepe stand, Japa Dog came into existence because Vancouver street stand regulations currently only permit hot dog stands, wrapped muffins and drinks. Not wanting to blend into the hundreds of other stands, Noriki developed a line of Japanese-inspired hot dogs including: the Korubuta Terimayo ~ $6.00 - considered the "Kobe beef" of pork, the
Okura ~ $5.50 - bratwurst , and Sakana, a fish sausage. The hotdogs are topped with various sauces as well as seaweed or bonito flakes. Payment Accepted:

Jan 8, 2010 Japa Dog is a bit of a Vancouver phenomenon, providing hot dog options different from the typical hot dog cart. They've expanded to two carts and are opening a storefront restaurant soon, and typically have lineups of hungry customers. I've had the Spicy Cheese Terimayo before, but that may not be available temporarily due to changes in regulations. That's my favourite hot dog, with spicy cheese, japanese mayo, seaweed, and teriyaki sauce. The sauces make the Terimayo line quite flavourful and unique. Terimayo hot dog prices are around $5-6. Jan 8, 2010 I'd heard about this place from my roommate, and since this location was only 3 blocks away from where I'm staying, I decided I had to get one. I opted to split the bratwurst and the kurobuta hot dog, which was topped with grilled onions, teriyaki sauce, japanese mayo and seaweed. The hotdog sauces were surprisingly good. Worth a stop if you're in the area. One note: Depending on the location, the lineups can be long.
