This place was Zagat-rated, and also on Aaron's to-try list. The two together were enough to convince me it was worth a shot. I'm glad we went to try it out! I'm also glad we were forced to do the chef's choice because I got to try things I would have never chosen on my own. Our meal included two appetizers - a chicken(?) dish, housemade sausage, and 3 kinds of soup - a mussel soup, a pork soup and a mushroom vegeterian, followed by a sliced beef dish, an octopus salad, a banana flower salad, a ling cod dish, two curries, and pad thai. Everything was delicious, though at times a bit on the salty or spicy side - and we had requested mild! The real standouts were the ling cod and the banana flower salad. A good find, though at $30 plus 18% gratuity for our party of 7, not necessarily a place to frequent regularly.

I have tried many different Thai restaurants- some in Thailand itself- and Maenam is the best that I've had so far. Each dish was prepared with a number of different spices herbs that worked really well together and brought out the flavour in the food. The service was also very good- the servers took care to note any food allergies and food preferences (we had a vegetarian and a person who is allergic to shellfish in our party) and were careful to point out dishes that contained meat and shellfish. Highly recommended!

We had the $30 tasting menu at Maenam since we had a large group. For that, you get a wide array of appetizer and main dishes - enough to get you well satisfied to stuffed. All the dishes had ample usage of spices and herbs. Some (like the halibut green curry) might be on the overly spicy side for some people, so be ready if you have that. Favourites include the hanger steak salad, the very intensely flavoured octopus salad, the banana blossom salad, and the sweet red vegetarian curry.

7 of us were here and above 6, there's a chef's choice menu. Amazing assortment of dishes, many I would have never even thought to order. Terrific food, nice cozy place, good staff, definitely would visit again.
