Came here after my roommate talked about this restaurant for about 1/2 a year. Heard that they don't take reservations and the lineups are legendary so I arrived at 5:15 or so only to miss the first seating by one table. Wait time? 1.5 hours. They asked if we wanted to sit in the lounge to wait but we opted to add our name to the list and wander around. After about 45 minutes I came back. What's nice is, even though you have to wait, they are serving complementary appetizers the whole time. We got seated much earlier than expected, after about 50 minutes.

We told the waiter it was our first time, and he suggested that he put together a selection of five dishes. One from our table is allergic to seafood so we had the lamb popsicles, the beef tenderloin, the chicken with saffron and two vegetarian dishes. The recommendations were all spot on. The beef was sooo tender, and I think that must have been my favourite. The saffron sauce with the chicken was so delicious we got extra naan to sop up all the sauce. Naan and rice were served in as much quantities as you'd like, and if you ask for chai, that's also provided. Their chai was yummy! I think our table must have had 3-4 refills each!

Another neat thing is that all the chefs are female. There's a window that you can peek into so I had fun watching them prepare our food. Overall a great experience and I'm glad we finally went.

I finally made it to Vij's after hearing a lot about it over the years. It is set in a nicely decorated space that includes elephant-patterned lanterns (notice the lighting on the walls as a result) and is usually buzzing with activity.

We ordered five dishes for six people, plus two desserts. That was a pretty reasonable amount to make us quite full. Standout dishes included the extremely tender beef shortrib dish and the marinated lamb popsicles. The kulfi (Indian ice cream) was also outstanding, although I'd say that all the dishes were at least good.

Ask for the free chai as well (which is delicious).
Vij's doesn't take reservations and is very popular, so be prepared to show up, put your name down, and wait in the lounge or wander around the area. Another option is to show up before opening time (probably 30 mins plus before) and line up.

I walked through the entrance past Vikram himself greeting some customers (extremely friendly guy) to the lounge in the back where warm snacks are served while you're waiting for your table. Met up with a few friends and we had a terrific meal. Our waiter recommended five dishes for the six of us to share. Unlimited naan and chai (you have to ask, it's amazing) with some of the best Indian food you'll ever eat. Absolutely worth it. Terrific atmosphere, great friendly staff at reasonable prices. Go!
