Oct 20, 2007 One of my three favourite restaurants in Montreal, and apparently for the rest of Montreal as well, as the place is always packed. Decorated like a rustic Cabin à Sucre (sugar shack), the wait staff is highly personable, the place bustling with a lively ever-present din. The open kitchen allows you to smell the inviting aromas of the food being prepared throughout the restaurant, and if you sit at the bar, actually see the preparation of heaven in action. Literally too, because the richness of the food will probably kill you. From foie gras poutine to conserve en canard with foie gras to stuffed pigs foot with foie gras, everything is rich, flavourful, and simply deadly and divine all at once. The food isn’t fancily prepared, and the rough presentation (e.g., the actual pig's foot on your plate when you order pig’s foot) is part of the charm. The menu doesn’t change all too frequently (thank goodness), but the specific nuances of each dish changes according to the season and the mood. For wine enthusiasts, a huge walk in cellar that is visible from the restaurant offers you ample choices. An ode to Bacchus this place certainly is, and I for one, am in. Aug 6, 2008 This restaurant is pretty insane. The food is so rich that I wont eat for 24 hours after eating there. The star dishes for me are "duck in a can" and "stuffed pig's foot". The duck in a can is a half duck-breast wrapped around a nice piece of foie gras preserved in a deer-stook balsamic reduction - the waiter brings you a peice of bread with mashed potato spread over it, opens a hot can of this stuff right in front of you and dumps it into the bread (that soaks up all that duck juice to become the most delicious thing on the plate). This is my 2nd favourite restaurant in all of Montreal - it would be my 1st if foie gras were healthy and full vitamins. Mar 13, 2010 This Montreal restaurant is noted for incorporating foie gras into many dishes and in many inventive ways. The food is very rich, but oh so tasty. The foie gras poutine was very delicious, if probably overkill in terms of richness, but the highlight for me was the "duck in a can". Basically duck stuffed and sealed in a can with carrots and foie gras. They open the can at the table for you, and it all comes plopping out on a plate of mashed potatoes. Not very elegant, but extremely good. I even bought a couple cans to take home with me as takeout!
