Schwartz's was founded in 1928 by Reuben Schwartz, a Jewish immigrant from Romania, and our restaurant has been in the same location ever since, on boulevard Saint-Laurent, where it is now tucked in around funky storefronts and trendy boutiques. The restaurant is a single white-tiled room containing several rows of long narrow tables. Come and enjoy a unique experience.
We've protected our tradition for over 80 years by maintaining the standards of old. Unlike other smoked-meat purveyors, who add chemicals to their briskets, Schwartz's prepares smoked meat the old-fashioned way using a secret blend of fine herbs and spices marinated for 10 days. Our smoked meat is smoked daily and contains no preservatives; just the award winning taste and freshness that have brought celebrities from all around the world to our tables.

- Then take the 55 bus north bound until you reach Schwartz's.

Schwartz's is great. The smoked meat sandwiches are a great value and really fill you up. The line-ups are long, but that just shows how popular the place is! If you're in Montreal you have to try a smoked meat sandwich, and this is the best place to go for your first taste. My brother goes here every day whenever he's in Montreal, and usually ends up taking home some smoked meat - you can buy it un-cut by the pound and once it's sealed it lasts for up to 12hours unrefrigerated, so its perfect for short flights home.

It's usually hard for a place to live up to expectations when its really talked up -- but I really dug their smoked meat -- and I'm not even a sandwich person! But when their sandwiches are $5.50 a piece, it's hard to go wrong. The only drawback are the long lineups, but the quaint and super packed store is absolutely worth visiting at least once.

This place is a Montreal Institution and a must visit so that you can taste some of the best smoked meat in Montreal. Everytime that I have been past this place there is always a line up outside waiting for a table, so be prepared for a wait or go early! You can also do take out but the atmosphere inside is something to be experienced.
