Bagels
In operation since 1957, St-Viateur Bagel was a family-owned bagel shop running a round-the-clock operation making what is known known as the Montreal-style bagels.  Considered by some to be a Montreal landmark, it was the first Montreal bagel factory in town for over twenty years.   The store is currently operated by Joe Morena, who started working at the shop at the age of 14.

St-Viateur has a very simple and basic layout, with giant bags of flour, a large wood-burning oven, and bagels that are still hand-rolled and baked.  To your right upon entry, a giant fridge offers you various choices of bagel spreads and condiments.

Whatever the heck time you get to this store, there’s always someone else in there buying bagels too. And for a darn good reason. The bagels are bloody good. Aside from bagel options (for sweet bagels, the cinnamon raison can’t be beat), you can also get accompaniments such as cream cheeses and salmon spreads. Mmm. Carbs.
