La Candelaria is a district of the huge city that is Bogota' Colombia. It's a really nice and interesting place where to meet young people and it's not so far from a center of life. This should not be identified with the city downtown that is the North part of Bogota' and it's mainly offices and really "modern" buildings (more commercial). La candelaria is plenty of many restaurant (cheap) and it's close to many universities all around the district. In La Candelaria I recommend the "Platypus hostel" that is a cheap hostel with nice environment. If you like more the "movida" you should go mainly in the North part of the city and there you may find many discoteques... but be careful! Sometimes going there might not be safe, so if you go don't go alone, it's always better to go with a friend, especially if he/she is from the place or if he/she knows spanish.
About the colombian cuisine, it is rich in flavors and very tasty. It's very cheap too.

La Candelaria is a historic neighborhood in downtown Bogotá , Colombia . It's the Old City in other cities. It houses several universities, libraries and museums. It;s a nice place where you can find nice pubs, cocktel lounges and bars.
