Situated in the Puhi industrial park, Mark's place is not the kind of place you'd normally find on your own as a tourist. Thanks to some guidebooks though, it's gotten extremely popular.

This is a takeout only place with a very commercial feel. It serves local food, with popular dishes such as the "Mark's Famous Mixed Plate" which comprises beef stew, chicken tonkatsu, and beef teriyaki, chicken and beef sandwiches, as well as a number of bento boxes. They also have daily specials that change all the time.

Payment Accepted:

From Kuhio Highway, turn onto Puhi Street, head down Hanalima street. It is on the corner of Hanalima and Haleukana Street.

I love hole-in-the-wall dining places. Better yet, I love hole-in-the-wall dining places that I would have never found unless the most popular guidebook for the island told me to go. Mark's place is situated in a really industrial part of Lihue, smack in the middle of not much for tourists. The whole place is very pedestrian, but the food was good. I got the Mixed Plate, and it came with a whole lot of food. It ended up being two meals for me. If I had to do it again though, I'd just get beef teriyaki. Their teriyaki was unbelievably good.

We hit Marks' on our way from the east coast to Waimea Canyon on the south/southwest of the island. It's take-out only. Prices are terrific with great food to boot and it's the kind of place I could see myself living off of should I spend any more time in Kauai.
