The Carnivore is exactly what it sounds like, so vegans and vegetarians beware. As a matter of fact, if you're an animal lover or otherwise finicky about what meats you eat, this might not be the place for you either. But if you're in Nairobi, about to head off for safari, or returning, or just in the mood, this is the best offering of meats outside of a Hemingway short story. Of course, there is chicken. But what's better, is what tastes like the chicken: crocodile. Shaved right off the skewer as it should be done. Try some zebra. It's tough, right? But you're eating zebra! Or how about the wildebeast? Who knew, right? At the carnivore you will discover or rediscover your most primal taste for meat, and you will be fullfilled. And you will be thankful for the experience. Make sure you grab a tres cool Carnivore Apron to take back home so you can tell your great story to all your jealous neighbors by the grill. So when you're in Nairobi again, sniff around and your nose (or the concierge) will lead you to the Carnivore Grill. You won't forget it anytime soon.

Make sure you're hungry before you head to Carnivores or it might be a waste of money - the amount of food available is enourmous! Immediately when you walk in you can smell the meat roasting over the fire and can see it while you're enjoying your meal. You eat sides and meat until you literally lower the white flag on your table to signal that you're ready for dessert. Most people eat more than they need to and suffer from "meat sweats"! It's a very busy restaurant despite its location near the airport and, from what I saw when I was there, is very popular with people just starting or finishing a safari or group trip and businessmen working in Nairobi. My friend was a vegetarian and didn't feel that the vegetarian options were that good or worth the cost, but if you like meat then you'll love Carnivores!

Nairobi's famous Carnivore Grill is a great place to eat after spending a day in Nairobi National Park looking at animals. There's a full menu, and the featured meal is a real experience. You've got a small flag of Kenya on your table, and until you lay the flag down, a series of servers visits your table with different kinds of meat: Beef, chicken and pork, of course, but also ostrich, crocodile, gazelle, zebra, and my favorite: eland!

It's a feeding frenzy not available anywhere else in the world that I know of.

This restaurant was a fun and busy place. You got to try some very different and exotic meats and it also had traditional food for the not so adventurous. It was a casual and enjoyable place to visit. I went with a large group and we had a great time and an enjoyable meal.
