My husband and I have been regular customers at this restaurant for many years and have noticed it's gradual decline and after our latest experience we will not be returning. We are not alone. We were surprised to find that the prices had gone up, considering it was already overpriced for the quality of food provided. I normally opt for the Tom Yum soup but on a previous visit found it bland and tastless so opted for the crab pancake rolls at a whopping £6.00 so expected them to be excellent. When they came it was ONE cut into three pieces. It had obviously been lying on a hot plate for some considerable time as the base was solid and could not be cut nor could I taste any crab. When the waitress took our plates she asked if we enjoyed the starters I said, "no". and she just walked away! When our mains came they were so small and on such large serving plates that they were almost cold on arrival at our table. I had ordered monk fish and it was the worst I had ever tasted it was gristly and obviously the very end of the tail and at £15.50 was a con. Then Ricky, the manager, came and asked us if we were enjoying our meal I told him I was bitterly disappointed and showed him dried up mess on my plate. He then said to me that it should have been done in batter as if it was my fault!! I chose this particular dish because it is not done in batter! No apology was offered. He then sent the waiter over to ask us what we wanted to drink, on him. I was drinking water and my husband beer my husband informed him that we did not want anymore drinks but he kept insisting we have a drink!! To the point that my husband said if he was so insistent why didn't he just take money off the bill! He eventually gave up and said that Ricky would pay for the drinks we already had. The staff are really obtrusive asking you if everything is alright every 2 minutes then ignoring you when they are not. The couple at the table next to us, who were Australian, actually said to the waiter, "maybe if you stopped asking us how our meal is we would have a chance to eat it!" quite right! I wish we were more like that! To add insult to injury when our bill came we had been charged for our drinks and we had been charged an extra pound for my inedible monk fish! When I pointed out this overcharge to the waitress she drew me a look and then returned with the menu pointing to a dish that was £16.50 I looked at her and said, "fine but that is not what I had!" realising her mistake she said she would change the bill. No apology whatsoever, what a cheek!! Ricky is always moaning that he is empty and losing customers, all I can say is you will be even emptier because this is one couple who will definitely not be back! Better to try the Thai Siam further west on Argyle street.

This restaurant was two doors away from the hotel in which I was staying. (Do not stay at that hotel, by the way. Alexander Thomson Hotel .) Surprisingly pricey, but the food was good. Check prices first before walking in (they post their menu on the window so that one can look before going inside).

We had dinner at the Thai Orchid Restaurant and loved it. Friendly service, very good food, good atmosphere. We can recommend it.
