While there are a tonne of great Mexican restaurants around me, they are usually of the greasy spoons variety. I was down here for the weekend with my roommates and I wanted a sit down place that was sliiightly nicer. Learning that they had good chips and mole, I decided it was a must stop. And literally we got off the plane in Burbank and drove straight there. There was a large lineup outside when I arrived, but the cleared through everyone quickly. What was supposed to be a 20 minute wait turned into 5. The restaurant is extremely spacious (apparently a new location) - a sign of a popularity. :) Soon after sitting down, a friendly server dropped down two bowls of chips and two containers of salsa - one made with tomatillos and a fire roasted salsa. They were GOOD. We were off to a great start. :) We quickly ordered the nachos plate with pork and guacamole, which was super amazing, got a pitcher of margaritas that quickly made me super drunk, and also a mole platter that was as good as it was talked up to be. Overall a very satisfying experience. :)

La Cabanita serves some excellent Mexican food. I don't have much to compare it to (Mexican foodwise) in the past, but I can definitely say that their food stands up well compared to good meals in other cuisines.

The chips and salsa were outstanding. I particularly liked the green salsa, and you could easily get full on that while waiting for your main dishes. That's not to say that the service is slow, but that you could easily scarf down bowl after bowl of these chips. Main dish consisted of an array of tacos (crispy pork skin, chicken avocado, and carne asada). All were excellent, although I was seriously stuffed by the end.

Best Mexican ever. Very folksy, Good food good value. Locally run, Good drinks good bar service. (great 2 franchise vs Chevys, El Torito, names). Indie Mexican fare. Best in this area of No LA CA area. Must sample if in area. Try the entomadads dish. Serve Red Green salsas with chips.

I need a 6th or 7th star. Some of the best Mexican food I've ever eaten. Staff was ridiculous cool and the chips and salsa were the best I've ever had, far and away. This is coming from someone who lives in the bay area with a Mexican place on every corner. Go!
