For some reason, I always feel intimidated about cooking seafood (specifically fish), so I like to order seafood when I'm out. Passionfish was recommended on a number of forums so I decided to check it out over the weekend with some friends. Since they all ordered fish dishes, I ordered the duck confit. We split a Baked gorgonzola/golden chutney/curried greens/spiced pecans salad and the Seared Scallop risotto cake for appetizers. The two appetizer dishes were absolute standouts, and I think I could have eaten both just by myself. :) I found my duck confit a bit dry and the orange fennel a bit odd, but I did love the halibut dish. Dessert wise, the banana bread was delicious, whereas the flourless chocolate cake was really just ok. Overall there were some real home runs and some headscratchers. Lesson to be learned - you can have an amazing meal if you order right, but otherwise there can be some misses. Dinner came to about $40 a person without wine.

My review for Passionfish is mixed, in spite of the 4 stars :)
The appetizers were terrific, the mains were mixed. I think we each would have preferred entre-sized portions of the appetizers! We had the gorgonzola/curry salad with gorgonzola which was amazing as well as the seared scallops. My main was the pesto salmon (OK) with portabello mushroom fries (excellent) and mushroom risotto (good). Among all of our mains, I thought it was best technically executed, in spite of the flavors - like seeing great actors in a so-so movie. Desserts were phenomenal (flourless chocolate cake and banana bread pudding).
Atmosphere was nice, if not a little on the tightly packed size. The people we were with were quite thin yet squeezing in to the booth meant banging in to the table next to you. Service was strictly OK.
