Aug 12, 2008 Atmosphere: Awesome! This small, upscale wine pub has modern decor with warm lighting which makes the place comfortable and inviting. A plasma TV for sports keeps the atmosphere casual. Service: Good! Although the staff was not as attentive as we wanted (hey, we're from Vegas), they were still friendly and helpful with selections. Music: Rock music - like NIN type of stuff. Favorite food specialty: I enjoyed the World's Fair Ohio Burger which reminded me of a White Castle burger minus the grease and way more delicious (think fresh ground American beef - mmmmm healthy) . The Refuge prides itself for having the best pastrami in the Bay Area, so Travis gave the Pastrami Burger a shot. It was extremely TASTY. Oh yes, and you must try the Strawberry Sofia dessert! Favorite drink specialty: Why, Belgium beers of course! We loved Maredsous (my favorite), La Chouffe, Delirium Tremens and the Chimay Tripel White. Pros: Great atmosphere, beer and food!!! Cons: Closes at 9 or 10 PM nightly. Oh yea, and the occasional family shows up with little loud children. Recommendation: I highly recommend this place! It is perfect for those lazy Saturday, Sunday afternoons or a time when you can just sit and enjoy the taste of everything! May 8, 2011 Anytime you got something with foie gras and I'm sold. The Refuge offers the option to add foie gras to any of their burgers for $10. But the star is really the pastrami. I don't even normally like pastrami! Get their Reuben sandwich, which is a toasted sandwich with Russian sauce and pastrami. If you go on the weekends it can get pretty busy, but the wait is not bad on week nights. They've also got a pretty large selection of beers.
