Sep 21, 2007 Soooo many people said it was the best sushi on the island. SOOOO many people. With that kind of pressure, of course I had to try it out. I was pretty beat that day, so I decided to get takeout. Their sushi options were pretty creative - ahi rolls with cayenne pepper and all, so I was quite excited. After a 60 minute wait for the takeout, I ended up being a bit disappointed. I mean, the sushi was good, but two huge knocks: First - they bill their california rolls as made with real crab meat, and staring at the alaskan pollok that was staring back at me, I'd say it was about as real crab as any other packs of imitation crab meat I ever saw in the supermarket. Second hit? Portions were *small.* For like $10 rolls, I expect to see more than mainland maki-sized portions. I mean, isn't this an island? Aren't there fishies swimming all around? C'mon! Cost of transportation for the rice must have been higher than the fish! You sooo could have supersized those rolls. Supersize them! So they would just look...normal. Sep 3, 2007 Kintaro... wasn't as good as the guidebooks made it out to be, but that really depends on where you're visiting from. Living in the bay area and having lived in Vancouver, I'm used to some pretty good sushi. This was good for where it was and what it offered but pretty darn expensive, even for Bay Area prices.
