This popular no-frills eatery features a simple menu - saimin - a local style soup noodle dish, plus a few barbeque options, but is great value.

I originally read about this place in a guide book, and being that my love of noodles is not unfamous, decided it would be a good first stop to try upon arriving to the Garden Isle. It did not disappoint. The noodle store is located on an unassuming strip that feels more like a back alley. You drive down near the end, and on the left is the shack like place with a simple sign "Hamura's Saimin" on the outside.

Once inside, you're greeted with a snake-like countertop that winds around the room. Sit at one of the many stools along the countertop, and a waitress will give you their menu. Those who get paralyzed by decisions need not fear - the choice is simple here. Choose between "regular" or "special", and maybe some barbeque meats like pork or chicken. I got the special.

The special is like all-dressed chips. You get everything in. Some lettuce, some green onions, a few wonton, noodles, a delicious soup broth, some ham, and half an egg. All of this, for $6, which seemed like a pretty good value considering how much I'd heard about how $$$$ Hawai'i is. Looking around, the composition of the patrons seems to be mostly locals, with some tourists. I overheard that the group next to me came here upon the recommendations of some locals on the plane.

Anyway, to sum up, it was good stuff. I heart the place, and would recommend it.

Hole-in-the-wall with good food and really fast service. No-frills, but worth the trip if you're in the area and you'll likely be convincing yourself to be "in the area" :-) For $6 you'll get a bowl of well... pretty much everything you can imagine and chances are you'll be full well before you finish this "regular"-sized serving.
