The Mercado del Puerto in Montevideo is a vegitarians worst dream and a wet dream for me. A large hollow building full of food stalls that grill anything that once mooed, bahhed, oinked or clucked. It is a temple to all things, bovine, porcine and rumin. The meat is amazing and cheap, a steak that would cost you 50 bucks in NYC is 6 bucks here and it come with a mountain of fries. Dont forget to wash it down with the local beer "Patrica" served in 1 liter bottles.
I spent every afternoon here eating my way through the food chain. The locals are wonderful, friendly open and social. Uruguay is the safest country in south america and only a few hours by ferry from Buenos Aires. Come for the people and beaches and stay for the meat........
