The climate is typical of that in the Mediterranean region, with hot dry summers and mild wet winters. It is usually sunny through most of the year and rain comes mainly in late spring and late autumn.
The lowlands rarely have rain in the summer. The inland regions tend to be hot in the summer, with July usually being the hottest month when maximum temperature can reach 100 degrees Fahrenheit in Tirana. However, it is cooler on the highlands, and along the coast where the temperature averages 70 to 85 degrees Fahrenheit.
In winter, the lowlands around the coast tend to have mild weather with average temperature of 45 to 50 degrees Faherenheit. The interior and mountainous regions are cooler and wetter, where night time temperature can drop below freezing.
The most pleasant time to visit the country is in the spring and autumn.
