Herbert's Tip on Pogradec
Pogradec, Southeastern Mountain Region, Albania
in the mountains of albania, this city is boarder with lovely macedonia. near the lake ohrid u can enjoy the cheap atmosphere of the open air market in the city but also relax on the beach of the lake. there are still some prints of the war and even if dirt seems to be everywhere in this town u can eat good food for few money and appreciate the sense of kindness and hospitality of albanians.

Carol's Tip on Shkoder
Shkoder, Adriatic Lowlands, Albania
Go and see the castle here and get someone to translate the story of the building of the castle and three brothers. There are some fantastic restaurants around the lake.

Carol's Tip on Tirane
Tirane, Adriatic Lowlands, Albania
If you like finding about the history of different countries visit the museum. there are great little art studios dotted all over this city where you can go and watch people paint and view the paintings they have done. Getting into a taxi in albania haggle the price first!!!! In tirana now there are lots of great pubs and clubs

Derek's Tip on Tirane
Tirane, Adriatic Lowlands, Albania
The Blocku section of town is where it's at for night life, just don't expect anyone to know where any streets are located as they are unmarked and often the local don't even know the official names!

Jake's Tip on Durres
Durres, Adriatic Lowlands, Albania
Durres was a pleasent and safe seaside resort, used by many albanians. i never felt threatened once. It is strange to have the beauty of the beach with the contrast of the reminents of the war. With all of the Concrete bukers and look out towers and barbwire. Still a beautiful place.

meet the local mafia and enjoy and ice cream. one night me my brother and dad where hungry so we went out looking for food, we found some locals and two young guys said for us to go with them they took us down a dark alley my dad wispered prepare to run but luckily there was a way through and we where not at danger. even though they where very macho looking they wherent really they where very kind they took us to their mum ad dad house where all the wood interior had been handcarved by them little squirrels and nuts and they wear players for the albanian football team, they brausght us lots of things on a plate and one thing where these pickles and then when we left our stomach made like an industrial sound or like a spaner was twisting something and we had terrible problems for a week. but god bless them anyway

Chloe's Tip on Sarande
Sarande, South Coastal Highlands, Albania
this is mafioso land all i remember is huge amouts of german mercedes and water mellons on sale everywhere. in the night go to the waters edge and go on the boat bars with outragous decores and marble fountains and sip cocktails with the locals. heading out of town north if it hasnt yet pluged into the sea is a fascinating hotel. its a round glass building on the edge off the sea.the reception doubles as a mini bar and always on our approach the hotelier would turn for a plung at the gin. we left our sweet gran who had lost her memory with him often while we bathed in the sea in front watching them throughthe glass. my gran seemed to like attacking him. one night i awoke with the rooom full of smoke the whole side of the moutai was on fire, just normal stuff apparently, well we weared those guys thin ando our final night at an untimely hour we ordered our last dinner of omlette asnd chips before heading north , we waited and waited and waited and then to our surprise and complete amusement all the staff where sat at a table digging into our chips ad omlettes. it was so funny, but we did go to bed hungry.,stay there.
