The capital city of Angola is its largest also its fastest growing.  Most travellers will enter Angola through Luanada.  Luanda is divided into two parts, Baixa de Luanda (lower Luanda, the old city) and the Cidade Alta (upper city or the new part), with the older city located close to the port.  By the shores are long sandbanks filled with beaches.  In Lunanda, you can stroll through old colonial buildings and narrow streets or visit numerous museums including the museums of slavery, anthropology and natural history.  Alternatively, head to Fortaleza de São Pedro da Barra, a fort that was used extensively during the slave trade.
Travel Tips from people who've been to Luanda
Awesome potential!
Very difficult yet to tour in Angola as luxury traveler - great for the adventurer! Take in the diamond mines, check out the roads (built by the Chinese) and notice that the elephants are still gone from the terrible 30 yr war. Be careful where you step if you are ouside of the cities. There are still landmines around the country.

Taxis are rare in Luanda and charge a fortune. Local people use a minibus service (Kangongeiro) to get around. Buses are blue, seat 12 and travel everywhere (but you need to know your destination to get on the right one).

Luanda et une destination assez risque pour qui veux faire du tourisme la ville et entouré de bidon ville et les sorties nocturnes sont à éviter sauf avec chauffeur et le véhicule verrouillé.
