Travel Tips from people who've been to Litoral Region
Stay at the Sheraton Internacional Iguazu Resort inside the National Park of Iguazu Falls on the Argentina side! It is a little bit more expensive but totally worth every penny!! This is what I wrote on tripadvisor: The only reason to stay at this hotel is for its location. It will take you about 20-30 minutes to get into "town" from the national park by car so staying inside the Park is THE BEST perk when you want a break in the middle of the day!! The hotel is a bit worn down (as many reviewers have said). But, the staff is friendly and you really can't beat the location. My husband and I were actually put in a room with 2 'full' size beds that were too small for both of us to fit. On the other hand, if you are traveling with a friend, you could easily share a room and not a bed! The bathroom in the rooms isn't the nicest. But, you shower and clean yourself off and it is fine! Personally, I wouldn't go barefoot... The pool is a bit worn down. It needs a paint job. But will do the trick by cooling you off when you need it! The towels are free, the bar is stocked and the bathroom just off the pool deck is really nice with showers, etc. (A good place to clean up if you have a late flight out of Iguazu!) The Spa is BLISS! The 4 hour package with full body massage, stretching, facial and 'special indoor pool' is worth the treat! It is just under 500 Peso's (a little over $160USD for 4 hours!) and is the best way to end a day of hiking around the falls! We were told by family that food in Iguazu is terrible! They did not lie! We went to "town" for dinner one evening to a fish restaurant that was "the best in town" and we thought it was gross. The next evening we ate the buffet at the hotel which wasn't the greatest food I've ever eatten but was much better than the fish restaurant. Plus, for a buffet, it was a pretty good sample of Argentine cuisine! Even with my negative points, I would still stay at this hotel again and recommend it to my closest friends. The location can not be beat it is worth the extra money! (You'll spend the money you save by getting into and out of the park everyday via taxi and park fees). Don't forget your Starwood number! You can drink bottles of water in the room for free just by being a member! Take bug spray and get your shots. Bring an extra memory card for your digitsl camera AND enjoy the falls! Good tip? (0) If you're into adventure, you should definitely visit the waterfalls at Iguazu. You can few the falls from either Argentina or Brazil, but it is best to visit the Argentina side because the views are better. The best time to visit is during the South American summer (December- March) because more water springs from the falls making them even more beautiful to look at. While you're in the area, you can also chill on the Rio Iguazu. It borders three nations: Argentina, Paraguay and Brazil. I actually stood at the base of the river in Argentina and I could look acroos the river and see Brazil and Paraguay simultaneously. It's really a great place to visit. Iguazu National Park also has activities for those who want to experience the falls at a more up close and personal level. This is best for those who don't want spend their entire trip taking pictures amongst a sea of tourists.
http://www.iguazuargentina.com/ Good tip? (0) On a recent trip to Iguazu Falls with Children, including two one year olds we inquired about boat trips that were safe for children. No problems we were told - the boats are perfectly safe and comfortable for babies. Ok - they are probably safe - the babies were issued with slightly too big life vests and that meant they were difficult to hold. What wasn't mentioned is that you are driven underneath the waterfall - the whole idea of the boat trip is to put you under the fall - that's it, it isn't really a tour down the river - and you don't need to do it, in fact don't take any kid under 2 on it - they just get drenched and grumpy. Kids can stay on shore and parent/s, etc can go if they wish - they sell it as a point A to B trip, but point B isn't really that far away walking. So enjoy your views etc - the babies stay away from the boats!!! Good tip? (0)
