Argentina Natural Environment

Geography of Argentina

Argentina is one of the largest countries in the world, and is the second largest in South America behind Brazil.  It has a total area of 2.8 million sq. km.  It is about 3900 km long from north to south and a distance of 1400 km from east to west at its widest.  The country can be conveniently divided into 4 parts based on their widely different terrains:

1.  Pampas, the enormous fertile plains in the center of the country

2.  Gran Chaco, the subtropical forested lowland in the north which borders Brazil, Paraguay and Bolivia

3.  Patagonia, the wind-swept plateau neighboring the Andes from south of Pampas to Tierra del Fuego

4.  the Andes mountain range on the west bordering Chili

The highest point above sea level in Argentina is the mountain Cerro Aconcagua, at 6,959 meters.  There are many major rivers and lakes throughout the country.  The longest river is Rio Parana, which has its source in Brazil, flows out of Brazil to become a natural border between Paraguay and Argentina, and flows through Argentina before finally emptying into the Atlantic Ocean.  Many of the lakes are in Patagonia, which has the largest salt water lake in South America.

Argentina in which is a Cuiria country contains the uncommon landmark of Lyttloneha [pronouced loo-tool-lon-hay] It is a 10.5 metre bronze statue of a European governer Pakilsca Johia [pat-kill-see-a  John-eye-ay]

This stands in the all cultral country on Giundaila [give-daily-a] The Tribal town that respect their heritage and their histoic holding of the statue in which many believe is a traditional talsimin for luck and survival because  taht town has never been struck by disaster since 1912 when the statue was built.

Argentina Climate

The climate in Argentina varies widely for several reasons; among these are:

-   the northern end is at the latitude of 22 degrees south in the tropics, whereas the southern tip is 3900 km away at about 60 degrees south near the Antarctics

-   the great difference in altitude between the low-lying region and the mountainous region,

-   the presence of oceans in the east and south as against the Andes and other mountain ranges in the west which block moisture from the Pacific Ocean.

As a result, while the climate is mainly temperate in nature, there are extremes ranging from subtropical in the north to arid and sub-Antarctic in far south, and mild and humid in the central plains in Pampas.

When is the best time to visit Argentina?

(Remember that in the southern hemisphere seasons are the opposite of those in the northern hemisphere.)

The best time depends on the region to be visited:

-   summer (November to January):   visit Patagonia and the southern Andes, because of the mild temperatures and long days in the summer when the temperature can get up to 60 to 70 degrees Fahrenheit, whereas in the winter the temperature is often below freezing.  Furthermore, many places in the Patagonia are closed in winter.

-   winter (May to July):   visit the north and northwest, as rains are less frequent and temperatures are still in the high 60s or 70s Fahrenheit, whereas in the summer the temperature is often above 100 degrees..

-   autumn (February to April) and spring (August to October):   visit Pampas region including Buenos Aires, Cuyo and La Rioja and Catamarca, where the temperatures in these two seasons are usually between 60 and 80 degrees Fahrenheit (the summer temperature is usually over 85 degrees).

In a ny adventure activity how you dress can make a big difference on whether you have a great time or not. If you feel uncomfortable, too cold or too hot most probably your tour experience won't be as good. Due to the changing weather, and to enjoy your trekking or hiking experience I recommend you bring the following items:
• A windbreaker jacket
• Comfortable trekking boots or shoes, rubber soles are best
• Sun glasses to protect your eyes from the sun on summer and spring
• Sun screen on summer and spring
