Travel Tips from people who've been to Northwestern Argentina
Cafayate is amazingly beautiful!!! Don't miss it if you are in Argentina. To get there, from Salta, you take a bus or mini bus or cab and drive through the Quebrada de Cafayate, a rocky mountain-like range that looks as if someone took a paintbrush to it and painted it "Sunset" or "Sunrise." Once there, all the vineyards (Domingo is my favourite, we tried the Torontes, Syrah and Malbec, but the Syrah was my favourite) are walking distance! You can spend the day (different vineyards have different opening hours) walking between everything. If you want to hit more in a day, split a cab with another wine taster, it costs virtually nothing to do this. You can also visit a cheese factory, go to a gelato shop that has !!!Wine Flavoured Icecream!!! Plus there are several tasty chocolate shops. All this, in a beautiful little town surrounded by a stunning landscape. You can also take tours to the most beautiful parts of the Quebrada.
In other words: Don't miss this amazing little town!!! Good tip? (0) If you travel to salta you have to taste the regional wines, and he wine icecream!!!
There are a lot of cheaper youth hostels around the main square (Plaza San Martin), or close to the Balcarce street, where there are many pubs to enjoy the night.
Better places in Salta: Iruya (you have to go there from Humahuaca- Jujuy), Cachi (the way to Cachi, called Cuesta del Obispo, is beautiful), Cafayate (where you will find the vineyards), and close to Cafayate, on "Quebrada de las Conchas" there are many rocks with funny forms, the "Garganta del Diablo" and the "Anfiteatro" are the best.
Good tip?
