Home of Nuestra Señora de la Merced Church, a Jesuit Estate and also former home of Ernesto "Che" Guevara, now made into a museum. This city hosts every January the Festival de las Colectividades, where different immigrant groups show their culture and specially their food. Great oportunity for eating diversly.

If you ever make your way to Miramar, Argentina, it's absolutely beautiful. It's about 2-4 hours from Mar Del Plata Which is also a great place, but Miramar is a small town where you won't find many tourists. The beaches are beautiful out there and they're not crowded. Look for a place that will rent out quad bikes. I can't remember the name of the place, but I'm pretty sure there's only one. They'll take you and your friends riding on the beach, and make a stop at a small restaurant/bar which is right on the beach and has a beautiful view. Then they'll take you through the woods. Over all it will take about 3-4 hours but the views are beautiful and if you're with friends, you'll have an amazing time. If you don't bring friends with you and you speak Spanish,  the locals are very nice so don't be afraid to make a new friend. Be careful though because it is a very poor country and you will find (mostly in major cities) people who will try to steal your money. You have a better chance of fitting in if you're not wearing expensive clothing and jewelry. If you feel like hanging out at the beach, you can enjoy the water but I should mention that there's a very high shark population in Argentina. If you enjoy fishing or if you want to give it a try, you can catch a lot of fish out there and you may even catch a shark (which is something I've done, so I imagine others have too). If you're looking for a place to stay, it shouldn't cost you too much because our dollar is worth a lot more out there. So rent a small house on the beach for a couple of weeks.
