A state of hostility exists at the Armenia-Azerbaijan border because of dispute between the two countries over Nagorno-Karabakh. Although a cease-fire has been in effect since 1994, Armenia's borders with Azerbaijan and Turkey have remained closed. There have been reports of occasional shooting and land mines remain in numerous areas along the border.
