Sydney Transportation
Travel Tips for Transportation in SydneySydney, New South Wales, Australia You have to go to Sydney at least once in your lifetime. It's definitely a place to see before you die. Relax at Circular Quay in one of the many street cafés, shop in the Queen Victoria building and go on a bridge climb. If you're not afraid of heights, it's something you shouldn't miss. It is certainly not cheap, but if you choose the climb at sunset, the view and the whole experience will be so rewarding. For those who are interested in music, buy yourself a ticket for a concert at the opera house. On a beautiful day (there will be plenty of them!), take the ferry to Manly and lie on the beach. Go to the Rocks and stroll through the shops. It's been 6 years since I last was there but I will go again in July 2008 and update you then! See ya Good tip? (0) Vaucluse, New South Wales, Australia It is a really good spot to watch the Fireworks on New Years. (You have to find a park off the main road and then walk down a staircase towards the waterfront.) If you are lucky you will get a bench, otherwise byo. There is a view of the whole harbour from there. Bus 324 from Circular Quay takes you there via Kings Cross. Good tip? (0) Sydney, New South Wales, Australia The easiest and fastest way to get around the city is by using the monorail it runs about every 3 to 5 min so there is never a long wait to get anywhere Good tip? (0) Watsons Bay, New South Wales, Australia From here you can take bus 324 all the way to Circular Quay via Vaucluse, Rose Bay, Double Bay, Edgecliff, Rushcutters Bay, Kings Cross, and William Street. There is also a ferry that leaves from the dock that will take you to Circular Quay. If you want the really scenic route take the bus one way and the ferry back. Look into day passes ($16AUS) May save you money if you are taking multiple ferry/bus/train rides that day. Good tip? (0) Potts Point, New South Wales, Australia Walk to the end of Victoria Street for a park with a great view, OR for my favourite view, walk just past the last shops and look to the side of the street nearer the waterfront and city skyline. There should be an apartment complex with a street sign pointing down the path between the connected building that says there is a staircase there. Walk through and it feels like you are trespassing even though you are not, and you can slowly see a view appearing. Go down the first flight of steps and you come to a comprehensive view of the Sydney Skyline (one of my fave views.) Follow the staircase down and it takes you to Wooloomooloo. You can walk along the waterfront which will take you to Hyde Park. Either follow the coast line for Harbour Views and end up at the Opera House, or cut through the Botanical Gardens following the signs for the Palm Gardens and you will find where thousands of Sydney bats sleep during the day. Keep going following signs to the Yurong Precinct and you will end up at the Opera House.
Victoria Street in Pott's Point is lined with backpackers hostels. Except at Christmas and New Years, you should have no trouble finding accomodation there. (Between $18 and $30 per night for a dorm bed.)
Roy's Famous Cafe has rude service, don't bother.
Nearest Train Station is Kings Cross, or take bus 324 Good tip? (0) Bradt Travel Guides |
