Each year in July mountain runners from all over the world come to the town to participate in the famous 'King of the Mountain Race'. These foolish fitness fanatics actually run up the 438-metre volcanic plug known as Mount Cooroora. More sensible people can relax in the town's delightful old style Pomona Hotel or go and see a movie in the Majestic Theatre (over the railway line) which claims to be Queensland's longest-running cinema.
