Located in the southeast corner of Australia, the Gold Coast is a popular destination for its surfing, its beaches and the nightlife. With its high-rise lined beaches and an overall glitzy and glamours feel, the Gold Coast is similar in ways more to Miami and Las Vegas than other parts of Australia.

Travel Tips from people who've been to Gold Coast
Restaurant Name: Ashmore Rd. Seafood & Steak The first thing that hits your olfacory as you approach the entrance are the delectable aromas of sizzling steaks. And as you walk in you will see a display counter which shows you all the different cuts of meat and various seafoods available and also the size of each serve including the salads. So you can pretty much make up your mind before being seated. Once at your table you can then order drinks at the bar. They have an enormous collection of some 25,000 wine bottles so once decide which tipple's for you you can pay for it at the bar, grab some glasses and go to your table to order your meal. The meal starts with toasted garlic focaccia bread which is free flowing all night and already included in the price of your meal. All tables are provided with menu sheets on which you place your name, table number and tick the meals that you want. I like this system of ordering meals because it makes paying the bill easy when dining with a large group of people. For example, I placed my name and table number on the menu sheet with all the meals for my family ticked on one sheet and that is all I was billed for at the end. No bill splitting or disagreements over who ate what and how much. All in all the service here was first class and the food was simply delicious. I highly recommend this restaurant to anyone visiting the Gold Coast. Because the meals are enormous and the garlic bread keeps coming all night, the chances are you won't be able to finish your meal. Just ask the waitress for a "doggy bag" which comes as a styrofoam container into which you can place your unfinished food for later on. Favorite Dish: As is my wont, I ordered a blue steak, Moreton Bay bugs with chips and vegetables. The steak had a bacon crust and must have been close to 500g and was mouthwateringly delicious and the "bugs" (which are much like small lobsters) were tender and sweet. I'm happy to add that I had no need for a "doggy bag" because I finished all my steak, bugs, chips, vegies, focaccia breads and a bottle of red. It was very hedonistic of me but I really enjoyed the night... burp. Read more: http://members.virtualtourist.com/m/827ac/1c9f87/2/#ixzz1IPni0e3B Good tip? (0) Wet'n'Wild Water World is on the Gold Coast and it is Australia's biggest water theme park with splashtacular rides. The Mach 5 attraction houses Wet 'n' Wild's two longest slides plus three king sized slides that have you skidding down a waterfall at nearly 85km/h. I can't remembering seeing anything because the faster I went down, the faster other things went up. I had my rashie over my eyes and my boardies up my... well I'll leave that to your imagination! Then there is the Tornado where your wild journey begins on a super-slide from a 15m high platform and then you blast down a 40m long tunnel and into a huge funnel, splashing back and forth through swirling water. The Blackhole features two enclosed slides that catapult you into pitch black spirals so you don't know which way you're turning next and you don't see a thing until you hit the final splashdown! At the Super 8 Aqua Racer you plunge head first down an 8 lane, 86m long slide reaching speeds of up to 40km/h and you get a placing to an accuracy of 1/1000th of a second. I'm afraid I was a little slow out of the starting block so I was left long behind. The park opens at 10:00am every day and closing times vary throughout the year. 27 December - 25 January 9:00pm 26 January - 30 April 5:00pm 1 May - 31 August 4:00pm 1 September - 26 December 5:00pm General admission prices are - Adults $40.00 $40.00 Children (4 - 13 years inclusive) $26.00 Pensioner $26.00 If you plan to visit Warner Bros. Movie World, Sea World or Wet'n'Wild , then a much better deal is the 3 Park Super Pass which allows you to visit any park, any day as many times as you like for 14 days. It's also close to Pacific Fair, Carrara Markets and a 7 day supermarket at Coco's. This property has 5 spacious bedrooms, 3 bathrooms (including one with a spa bath), 3 large living areas and a huge kitchen with dining area. It's a 2 storey house with 2 bedrooms, a bathroom and a large living area on the second level. With 2 double beds and 8 singles there was ample sleeping room for ten people and also for the visitors who came and crashed on the lounge over the the two weeks that we were there. Outside there is a big patio BBQ area overlooking a private swimming pool and the canals. There is also a private jetty to moor a boat, go fishing or just to feed the local ducks that visit each day looking for scraps of food. The property cost us AU$1,650 per week but this was equally divided amongst three families making it a very economical stay. It worked out cheaper than staying in hotels with more room than we knew what to do with. Check out the attached website for current pricing and availabilty. Unique Qualities: A huge property, a great location and a perfect place to stay for large groups to make it an economical alternative to hotels.
