Travel Tips from people who've been to Magnetic Island
If you go to magnetic island you go for one thing (okay maybe two): Reef Diving, and when you are on Magnetic Island, you are in the right place to see the amazing life under the see. There are enclosed bays for small children, of people who don;t want to take any risk meeting a shark, jelly fish or other creepy creatures.. Though jelly fish will be very rare to meet, and only in the summer and spring season (from about september to february). But for those who don't mind a little risk, and move farther out, you will encounter beautifully scenes. The most colerful fish an coral, and if you are lucky, turtouises are not rarely spotted at Magnetic island.
For transportation: There is a busline, but if you don't want to be tied to a roster, there are several small companies were you can hire buggy's or other small transportation vehicles for an acceptable price.
If you want a good experience, you have to take the earliest boat to, and the last bot from Magnetic Island. That way you have enough time to enjoy the reef, and a good lunch and dinner.

Do "the Forts" walking track. It starts about 20 min form Horseshoe Bay (walking). You have some really nice views over some of the beaches, the island and the mainland. There are also some parts of the fortification left from WW2, for those interested. Its a nice walk for an afternoon, as it takes about 1-2 hours, depending how much time you spend enjoying the view. There are also a lot of Koala's. I was told that you always see at least one of them (I saw three).

Get up early and walk up the forts to see the sunrise. After that go down to Arthur Bay and walk from ther from bay to bay back to horseshoe bay. A nice walk, with beautiful beaches, clear wahter, a lot of rocks (for rockclimbing) and peace. Relax in the sun and on your walk. Just great

by the way, stay at Horseshoe Bay at the YHA Hostel. It is fantastic
