Few travelers choose to stop at Moreton Island when traveling to Australia, and those that do often go to see the Tangalooma Wrecks. Those traveling through the area most often go to more well-known destinations such as Brisbane and Gold Coast. Travel Tips from people who've been to Moreton Island
Keep an eye on the beach in the afternoons, as sometimes a group of dolphoins will come into shore close enough for you to walk in pretty close to them.. That happened to use twice when we were there in March this year, and saw them often swimming towards Tangalooma in late afternoon.
Watch out for stingrays in stingray season - my friend got stung by one and it took WEEKS and about 3 or 4 courses of antibiotics for the infection she got to clear up. Go into the water by sliding your feet along the sand - then they can detect you coming and get out of the way. Apparently the bite is extremely painful due to the venom. Good tip? (0) Probably one of my best trips ever. Moreton Island is just next to Brisbane and it only takes about 2 hours by ferry. Consider the fact that the Island isn't very civilized although a lot of campers and other tourists will be present, so go prepared and be sure that you will enjoy your time hiking along the deserted coasts, swiming in the crystal clear lagoons and camping in middle of nowhere. Good tip? (0) You might recognise Moreton Island if your a Scooby Doo fan. It was the set for Spooky Island. Great place to go and feed the dolphins and do some dune surfing. Good tip?
