Albany Travel Guide

Whale World is situated at Cheynes Beach Whaling Station not far from Albany. Commercial whaling stopped in 1978 and the site is now used as a museum.
It is open from 9:00am - 5:00pm daily and the entry fee is $18 for adults and $9 for kids aged 6-12. You can get a family pass for $45 (2 adults/2 kids).
The two stand out attractions for me are the complete whale skeleton which comes with it's own ancient aroma of blubber and the Cheynes IV whaler where you can wander around inside to get a feel for conditions on a whaling boat.

The blowholes are located on Frenchman Bay Road, Torndirrup National Park, about 17km's from Albany

The best time to experience the blowholes is on rough days with a large swell when they really do blow! Don't stand too close to them because it can cause quite a fright!
And do remember to be careful along this stretch coast as can be unpredictable and dangerous. Many visitors have drowned by being swept out to sea by an unexpected and unseen king wave.
Don't turn your back on the sea!

The Brig "Amity" is an exact replica of the original sailing ship which brought the first convicts and settlers to Albany way back in 1826.
The replica was built in 1975 which now sits about 200m from the original landing site and what is now part of the harbour foreshore.
For a gold coin donation you can clamber below decks to see what conditions may have been like for the unfortunate souls who were transported to Australia during the 19th century.
