Margaret River is located just south of Perth and is most famous as a wine producing region.  That said it is a region that also produces wonderful cheese, yogurt, there's a chocolate factory, the bushland is spectacular and of course, there's the river.  It's definitely worth spending a few days here and exploring!

Travel Tips from people who've been to Margaret River
Located 280 km south of Perth Margaret River has developed into a settlement of some substance with a number of quality motels and craft shops.  It does have an excellent privately run museum, it is a pleasant little town with an attractive upmarket feel, and it is in the heart of an area of limestone caves , vineyards, forests of hardwood and attractive coastlines. Its major industries include tourism, dairy cattle and timber. One of the great attractions of Margaret River are the vineyards and wineries which lie between Busselton and Witchcliffe. The climate in the area is perfect for wine growing. It is classically Mediterranean with cool frost-free winters, good soils which retain the moisture, low summer rainfall and a long, slow ripening period. This is a new industry in the area. The first grape vines were planted as recently as 1967 but already the region is producing Rhine Riesling, Chardonnay, Semillon, Sauvignon Blanc, Cabernet Sauvignon, Pinot Noir and Shiraz. There are now over 110 wineries in the area. People wanting to do a little tasting should contact the Margaret River Tourist Association which has maps and details of opening times. Contact (08) 9757 2911.

Margaret River is known for its top quality wine and big surf... but is has a seriously cool village atmosphere there too. The beaches are some of the best... but it is about 3 hours on the road from Perth. There are some really nice hotels there and plenty of Sandgropers (Western Australians) tour the south west in their holidays. Plenty of vineyards and there are some limestone caves in the area. Bring your surfboard and sunscreen!

Margaret River is full of wineries, so it is best to take it slowly, as there are some very nice wines for great prices.   They will ship your wines home that you buy.  Great Restaurants in the wineries and food is flesh and exciting!  We are blessed in Australia to have good fresh produce.  Lots of Hotels and Accommodation on the beaches and around the Margaret River area.
