Travel Tips from people who've been to Hallein
Puch bei Hallein is a small village next to Hallein (not that Hallein is all that huge). Both places are about half an hour by bus to Salzburg. Even if you have a car, take the bus; parking in Salzburg can be a bear. Our favorite place to stay is in Puch: Hotel Gasthof zum Kirchenwirt (a mouthful). They have a spa and the restuarnat serves knock-out Austrian specialties. Their veal dishes are REALLY wonderful. Staying here also means you have more of an opportunity to interact with locals. Good tip? (0) A small town under Salzburg. I went there by bycicle once. It is nicely situated on the bench on the river. The most ineteresting thing fr me there was a Keltic Museum. Some very rare things to see there.
There is also a house-museum of the guy, whi wrote "Silent Night" - the Xmas song. But I didn't visit it, had no time.
Also liked the small cafe opposite to the museum. They had a magazine in Russian and served taste lever soup. Good tip? (0) You have to visit the Keltenmuseum (museum about celts), Stille Nacht Museum (silent night museum) and the grave of Franz Xaver Gruber! Eat at the Stadtkrug. Good tip?
