Salzburg State People & Culture
Salzburg, Salzburg State, Austria Go there and wonder why those people pretend to like that music Good tip? (0) Salzburg, Salzburg State, Austria Mozart's city. Historical town with lots of great people and buildings Good tip? (0) Salzburg, Salzburg State, Austria Mozart, move over, this is a city that bears the title of the quietest European Metro city. Lovely old castle, which people still live in, quiet pubs, quiet city life, great city to stop in for a night or two. Not to much to see but very peaceful. Good tip? (0) Salzburg, Salzburg State, Austria The Sound Of Music Tour The Sound Of Music Tour, I would say, is only for big SOM fans. And, okay, I'll admit, I'm a fan. It's cheesy and silly but it can be fun with the right group. Unfortunately our group was filled with people who had been dragged along by other fans. The bus takes you to the Von Trapp estate. You are filled with little needless factoids about the movie and all the while the soundtrack plays in the background. The tour also takes you to the gazebo and shows you a bit of the countryside where portions of the movie were filmed. At Least Do This: If you are being dragged along against your will at least you'll get a great view of the Austrian countryside. It is beautiful and you do make various stops. But I really would only recommend this trip for true fans of the movie. Be prepared for a sing-along on the bus and some major cheese factor! Good tip? (0) Salzburg, Salzburg State, Austria the food is very very nice.they have the variety of restaurants but be careful!!!very expensive!!!
it's best to walk around since most of the streets are one way.you can get lost very easy by driving a car....
of course since it's the city of mozart everything is in the sign of him!!!!and of course of the famous mozartkuggeln...the sweets which started to be made there!!
the nightlife is ok but you must have your own company since the salzburg people are not that opened for communications... Good tip? (0) Salzburg, Salzburg State, Austria Salzburg is a cultural must whether you are into Mozart or the Sound of Music. This picturesque city is well worth a visit and even the Mc Donalds is not allowed to diplay its big M sign thus keeping the tone of the cobble streets firmly into the past. Good tip? (0) Salzburg, Salzburg State, Austria Baroque, culture and music are the first things that come to mind when
talking about Salzburg. A msut see place is Mirabell Palace, with it's
perfectly maintained gardens. Very well preserved city, like it just
came out of the 1860's painting. Good tip? (0) Salzburg, Salzburg State, Austria The Austrian city is near the border of Germany and is renowned as the birthplace of Mozart. The bishops palace, the river and old the baroque churches add up to a delightful few days in a cultural city. Good tip? (0) Salzburg, Salzburg State, Austria every winter, before christmas there is a theater-muisical show, called the "Adventsfestspiele". If you like local culture this is a must, but Salzburg is really crowded so book a Hotel outside of the city. (its much ceaper to!) Good tip? (0) Salzburg, Salzburg State, Austria Cold Weather in winter, lot's of cultural activities, museum, opera, castells. Good tip? (0) Salzburg, Salzburg State, Austria Salzburg! Loved it. Great town, not too big but with history. Definitely recommend the Sound of Music Tour and you will find out the real story, not the Disney version! Make sure you play the drinking game - everytime you hear the names 'Maria' or 'Captian' said in the movie, drink!
Also known as the birthplace of Mozart and there is a statue/fountain to prove it.
Visit the castle on top of the cliff - it is cool and has amazing views.
Great shopping, easy walking distances. Loved the Christmas shop the best. Good tip? (0) Salzburg, Salzburg State, Austria Definitely take the Sound of Music tour - it sounds lame but you get to see a lot of the surrounding countryside and it is breathtaking! Good tip? (0) Sankt Gilgen, Salzburg State, Austria A charming town on the Wolfgangsee in the Salzkammergut region. There are some wonderful hikes in this area. Check out the Music Instrument Museum where you can hear instruments from around the world. Good tip? (0) Salzburg, Salzburg State, Austria Definetely "Sound of Music" Tour..they also got a nice shopping streets in the city.. Good tip? (0) Sankt Gilgen, Salzburg State, Austria A charming town on the Wolfgangsee in the Salzkammergut region. There are some wonderful hikes in this area. Classical music playing, stayed on top of the hill in a cheap hostel. Took Floreline Maria's Bike Tour so got to see all the sites from the movie and get a good work out. cheap and fun, even if you don't like the movie. Good tip? (0) Zell am See, Salzburg State, Austria What else?? Skiing snowboarding and in the summer every posible sport on the lake :) Good tip? (0) Salzburg, Salzburg State, Austria Instead of taking the tram up to the top of the fortress, take the scenic route - a hike up the path. It's a decent hike, but well worth the views. Good tip? (0) Salzburg, Salzburg State, Austria Even though it is pretty expensive, I would recommend taking an organized Sound of Music Tour because then you would see everything. I did not and I regret not going on the tour, since I only got to see some of the spots. I have heard that the Sound of Music bike tour is pretty good! Besides that, the city is beautiful has amazing hidden streets. There's also a ton of churches! Good tip? (0) Salzburg, Salzburg State, Austria A couple of things you should do if you have a little more time in Salzburg;
Go to the Museum der Moderne on the Monchsberg.
Go to the AugustinerBrau for really good Austrian food, good beer and cheap prices in a great environment.
Go to the Steinterrassencafe in the Hotel Stein, just next to the main bridge- you get a great view over the centre.
Sit in Mirabell Gardens for a bit, you'll see all the locals sunning themselves.
Have Sacher Torte, the Hotel Sacher cafe has the best but it's quite expensive.
Mozart Kugeln obviously- but buy the ones from the Konditorei Furst (the silver ones) because they're the originals.
Mozart's Geburthaus is quite boring, his Wohnhaus is quite cool.
In summer, go to the Eisgrotte on Getreidegasse for amazing ice cream.
Cafe Tomaselli isn't really that expensive; if you go have the apfelstrudel. It's immense.
If you have half a day to spare go up to the Untersberg (a mountain), on a sunny day the view is amazing. Failing that the view from the Hohensalzburg Fortress good.
Get a Salzburg Card- you can get in pretty much any touristy place free plus you don't have to pay for buses. Good tip? (+1) Salzburg, Salzburg State, Austria You can't go to Salzburg without going into a salt mine. The boat ride deep underground was pretty cool. Good tip? (0) Zell am See, Salzburg State, Austria Zell am Zee is a beautiful lakeside location in Northern Austria and is an ideal area for visiting Salzburg. It is very flat and is ideal to cycle around the lake taking in the picturesque scenery. Good tip? (0) Top Cities in Salzburg State |
