02115The main attraction in Piber is the official stud farm that breeds the famous Lipizzaner stallions that perform at Vienna's Spanish Riding School. And what a farm it is. Set in mountain foothills, the farm is disarmingly pretty, with white mares and their black foals grazing on wildflower strewn pastures. The stallions themselves are equally impressive, with their imposing bulk and presence. Tours are given, though at the time of my visit, they were only conducted in German. Even if you don't speak the language, it's nice to tour the barns and see a bit of the workings of this historic bastion of horse breeding.
